چکیده
Introduction: Prediction of mesiodistal (MD) width of unerupted permanent canines and premolars is an essential aspect of mixed dentition analysis. Several methods are used to predict tooth width. The best methods demonstrate high values of correlation and determination coeffi cients. In this study, we aimed to determine the linear regression equation that would predict the sum of the MD widths of mandibular permanent canines and premolars based on the sum of widths of the four mandibular permanent incisors and fi rst permanent molars. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 100 dental casts, obtained from Indian patients (50 male, 50 female, age ranges from 13 to 18 years). MD widths were measured with an electronic digital caliper. Paired and unpaired t-tests were used to determine measurement consistencies and the inter-examiner calibration, respectively. Unpaired t-test was also used to determine right/left side and sex differences. Paired t-test was also used to compare the predicted and actual sum of width of mandibular permanent canines and premolars. Results: We found high values of correlation (r) and determination (r2) coeffi cients (i.e., r = 0.746 and r2 = 0.557). On average, there was no difference between predicted and actual widths of the mandibular permanent canines and premolars, and the standard errors of estimation were 1.69, 1.48, and 1.69 mm for the males, females, and the total sample, respectively. Conclusion: The proposed method showed good accuracy and was easy to use, but it must be tested for other population.

Background and Aims: Since there is a relationship between the tooth size and race, it seems that having statistical information about the tooth size in a society in which the orthodontic treatments are done, is very important. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the mesiodistal width of permanent incisors and first molars in both jaws with unerrupted permanent canin...

Introduction: It is important to predict mesiodistal crown width of the unerupted permanent canine and premolars in the mixed dentition, which helps to better determine malocclusion and its further development. Methods: In this study, 120 pair of dental study casts, belonged to subjects aged between 12-30 years, were selected and measured in the most mesiodistal width of permanent canines and ...

OBJECTIVES To test the applicability of the Tanaka and Johnston prediction method in a Saudi population. METHODS The current study was conducted at the College of Dentistry, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from September 2013 to January 2014, on a sample of 409 pairs of orthodontic study models. The mesiodistal width of the mandibular permanent incisors, permanent canines, and perm...
متن کاملPrediction of Mesiodistal Width of Unerupted Lateral Incisors, Canines and Premolars in Orthodontic Patients in Early Mixed Dentition Period
OBJECTIVES Proper diagnosis and prevention of malocclusion are superior to treatment. Discrepancy between arch length and tooth size in mixed dentition period is a condition requiring timely diagnosis. Estimating the mesiodistal width of unerupted teeth according to the size of erupted ones can lead to earlier diagnosis of malocclusion. On the other hand, the best timing for serial extractions ...

AIMS Prediction of the mesiodistal crown width of unerupted canines and premolars is an important aspect of mixed dentition analysis. The accuracy of Tanaka-Johnston equations, the most commonly method, is questionable when it is applied to different ethnic groups. In this study, we aimed to develop a new regression equation for this prediction in an Iranian population. MATERIALS AND METHODS ...
